This Turkoman bag face includes a pointed star frame and a madder-red field with nine tribal crests - known as chuval guls. A plain bottom panel, or elem, completes the design. Woven entirely in wool, this handwoven textile would have primarily served as nomadic storage, yet its bold colours and striking composition makes it a desirable decorative piece.
