Protecting against moths
One of the most common questions we receive is: “Can moths really eat my rug?” Unfortunately, the answer is yes. But the good news is that prevention is simple.
Keep it in use: Rugs that are vacuumed, moved, and walked on regularly are very unlikely to suffer moth damage.
Avoid long-term storage: Many antique rugs are left in attics or storage rooms for weeks, months, or even years. This still and often dark damp environemnt is perfect for moths.
If you do decide to store your rug, make sure its rolled up tightly with the pile facing inwards, and use a durable material like Tyvek to wrap it. This keep insects out whilst preventing the build-up of moisture.
