This rug, crafted in northern Afghanistan, is embedded with a traditional Ersari design. Florets, guard heads and ‘running water’ motifs are faintly visible along the various boarders, blending in with the dark ground. The octagonal shapes in the centre, more commonly referred to as ‘Turkoman Guls’, are rendered using soft red hues and black outlines, giving them a clear and structured appearance. Overall, the uniformity within the colour pallete complements the warm beiges and browns found in many country-house interiors.
