This well-structured Karachov Kazak rug shows exceptional use of spacing and colour. The ivory mihrab in the centre matches well with the soft red around it, not the most densely decorated piece, which helps point to the age of this rug. The generous spacing draws attention to the traditional motifs. Some of patterns, like the hooked boxes, shows signs of wear, but that is to be expected on a rug woven in the mid 19th century. You can find this exact piece displayed in Brian McDonald's Book 'Treasures of the Black Tent' on page 243 - colour plate 186.
