This gorgeous textile is a wonderful expression of Marsh Arab Art. These people have lived on the floodplains of the Tigris and Euphrates for centuries, a unique homeland that is reflected in this blanket through the abundance of colour thats softened over time. This ranges from delicate leaves and flower heads to sprawling vines, made all the more prominent through the soft illumination of the pastel orange foundation. All of these hand-drawn features were traditionally woven by a young woman in preparation for her marriage, giving this wedding blanket a level of emotional value that extends far beyond its physical dimensions.
