This charming Kurdish rug is made up of many traditional elements. For example, the colourful 'running water' motif along the ivory ground borders frame the rug in a playful way, as if they were the wrapping paper of a gift. The six medallions that line the central field are known as 'Memling Guls,' and these too use a range of colours, from pale forest greens to striking sky blues. Therefore, despite being geometrical in its layout, much experimentation was done through the colour choices, in order to bring this cheerful village rug to life.
