This early Anatolian prayer rug has been shaped by generations of use. Glimpses of the border can be seen on the top panel where it has been historically rewoven and now faded over many years, which shows scenes of blossoming tulips and tribal stars that evoke the onlookers imagination. The main field has a traditional Ladik design, characterised by the empty red mihrab and two adjoining panels. In this case, they display an abstract design of serrated leaves, plants and flower heads. Whilst there are obvious discrepancies across this rug, its old age and character still make it desirable.
