This early Antique Kozak rug originates from the Bergama region of western Turkey. The outer frame is made up of small hooks, used for protection against the evil eye, whilst the intricate daisy chains on next six borders alternate from brown to chalk-white grounds. This leaves a very narrow prayer niche in the field, that is anchored around a Lezghi star, and surrounded by plants and rosettes. Despite the significant wear in the centre, there is no doubt that this Kozak's tidy composition makes it a great decorative rug or wall display.
