The colour palette and detail in this rug is stunning. It immediately draws the attention onto the intricate border imagery, made up of softly coloured flowers that sit in romanesque vases and small discreet animal motifs. Each one is drawn in slightly different shapes and sizes, yet they manage to maintain an overall cohesion across the extensive circumference of this rug - an impressive feat.
On this note, it would be easy to disregard the open field due to the lack of motifs. However, its job is to simply balance out the patterns around it, using a ivory field that has developed a beautiful patina from its 19th century origins. Overall, the length of runner means it would fit well in a hallway or a large room.
