This rug, which is possibly an Armenian Shirvan, displays great uniformity throughout. Adding diagonal strips of red, blue and cream along the border is an inventive way to introduce the colour scheme, whist also creating the effect of a condensed field. This section is where the natural imagery comes into focus, since it is made up of a diverse array of flower heads that flourish either side of the hexagonal medallion. But perhaps the most striking feature is the midnight-blue ground, that not only adds cohesion with the outer border, but creates another layer of depth to this evocative yet well-structured rug.
