Antique Caucasian Zakatala prayer rug, circa 1900, shows tribal aesthetic of the North Caucasus region. Hand-knotted with naturally dyed, hand-spun wool on a supple wool foundation, it features a sharply architectural mihrab (prayer niche) above a dense, repeating lattice field of geometric blossoms and protective amulets. The bold, reciprocal ivory and red borders, thick blue wool selvedges, and rich indigo tones highlight its authentic village construction.
