This Caucasian "Black" Marasali Shirvan is very finely woven and a well-formed classic. It is dated 1302, which translates to 1884. Wavy ribbons are prevalent across all four borders, helping to adorn the softly-drawn blossoms and enigmatic polygons. This works as an effective contrast to the more rugged central field, which is made up of an array of serrated botehs that glow on the dark indigo-blue ground. These playful motifs are compactly positioned within the sharp frame of the mihrab, giving this prayer rug a sense of order despite the use of varying textures. Overall, this is a great collectors piece to display.
