This Caucasian Chichi rug features a beautifully rendered and densely patterned design. Its borders are filled with an intense array of colours and motifs, including running-water patterns, colourful flower heads, and diagonal bar-and-rosette elements. Despite the compact framing, the central field commands attention with an array of tribal stars and medallions woven onto a deep cerulean-blue ground. Overall, this small and attractive rug is a desirable piece, and is very similar to plate 362 illustrated in Ian Bennett’s Caucasian Rugs, Volume I.
