Antique Caucasian Karabagh Rug, dating from the late 19th century is a vibrant example of tribal village weaving. It features a rich, deep madder-red field populated with multiple nomadic motifs and boteh. The palette consists of indigo blue, saffron yellow, ivory and Aubergine.
The rug is framed by a classic border system, dominated by 3 barber poles. Structurally, it is distinguished by a shaggy wool pile and a soft floppy handle indicating a wool-on-wool construction. Technical hallmarks include multiple blue wool wefts and overcast selvages in alternating red and blue wool and cartouche in Farsi.
